Aileron Trim OP38-1 to OP38-5-1

In between aileron and flap priming and assembly sessions, I took some time to start preparing parts of the aileron trim bracket. This involved deburring bracket edges and final drilling holes as well as separating spacers.

After priming all the parts I put together the aileron trim assembly as described in the plans, and then used a power supply to verify that the trim arm operates as intended.

Some minor scraping of the primer will be touched up once assembly is complete

A cleco clamp came in handy to hold the nut while using a screwdriver from the other side to attach the trim motor to the bracket

Cotter pins bent to hold the parts together

With the aileron trim assembly complete, I took one of the bottom wing access panels and after marking the required location of the trim assembly on the access panel, I clamped the trim assembly in place and match drilled the #19 holes for the attachment screws.

Screw holes were drilled to #21 on the drill press and then to #19 using a reamer. As each hole was drilled to size, a screw was inserted to keep the trim assembly in place on the access plate

Finally, I deburred and dimpled all the screw holes in the trim assembly and access plate for a #8 screw, and also dimpled the nutplate attach holes on the aileron assembly and nutplates. The nutplates were then attached using 3-3.5 rivets.

Aileron trim assembly will be put aside for now until further progress is made on the aileron actuation and bottom wing skin sections
