Wing Main Spar 13-2-4
With Van's latest guidance and testing of laser cut parts, along with their revised affected parts list, the only parts I have recommended for replacement (based on their very conservative testing strategy) are the following red and yellow labeled parts:
- A-1005-1L - Main Rib
- A-1005-1R - Main Rib
- A-1015-1L - Inboard Nose Rib
- A-1015-1R - Inboard Nose Rib
- FL-1004-L - Flap Nose Rib
- FL-1004-R - Flap Nose Rib
- W-1010-L-1 - Inboard Wing Rib .032
- W-1010-R-1 - Inboard Wing Rib .032
- W-1025B - Flap Hinge Rib
- W-1029A-L - Torque Tube Bracket
- W-1029A-R - Torque Tube Bracket
- W-1029B-L - Torque Tube Bracket
- W-1029B-R - Torque Tube Bracket
Blue labeled parts have a lifetime equivalent to punched parts, so those do not need replacing.
To close out section 13, all that remained was to rivet the spar extensions and splice plates to the main spars. Once I had the spars securely clamped to the workbench, these rivets were easily bucked.
Right main spar clamped in position for riveting the spar extensions. The leading edge cradles worked well for clamping and support. |
Half way through riveting the right wing spar extension. |
Manufactured heads look good with no smilies around the edges. Tape on the rivet heads helped! |
Shop heads also formed nicely on the right spar... |
...and the left spar |
