Mods - Aircraft Specialty (hose kit), Beringer (wheels and brakes) and Control Approach (rudder pedals) - delivery and inventory

In preparation for receiving my RV-10 fuselage kit from Van's, I decided to place orders for some third party items that I am planning on using in my build.

First off are Beringer wheels and brakes. I was very impressed with what I had seen online of the quality of these components, and placed my order for this kit at the end of 2023. In addition to the standard Beringer wheels and brakes for the RV-10, I have decided to include the following options

  • Parking Brake
  • ALIR Anti-Skid Regulator
  • Sensair TPMS

I had previously opted to remove the standard Grove wheel and brake option from my RV-10 fuselage kit order, and Van's honored that deletion when final payment was requested for that kit, so that also helped to offset the cost of the Beringer components.

In addition to the Beringer items, I also ordered the RV-10 wheel and brake hose kit from Aircraft Specialty Flightlines, and in fact placed the entire order for hoses and Beringer components through ASF. Since I am also planning to install the Control Approach rudder pedals for the RV-10, I requested the ASF hose kit designed to fit with both the Beringer and Control Approach setup.

I cannot say enough good things about Steve and Tom at ASF in how they explained and took the time to help me understand the different options, and having spoken directly to both of them I don't hesitate to recommend their products to other builders. I plan soon to also order their RV-10 cabin/fuel hose kit once I nail down the engine options I will go with.

Both Beringer and ASF kits shipped from different locations, but arrived on the same day a few weeks after ordering. Both were well packaged, and survived the UPS journeys intact with no obvious shipping mishandling.

ASF hoses inventoried. Beringer documentation includes a useful diagram that makes it easy to understand which hose connects which components in a Beringer wheel/brake/parking brake/ALIR system

A week later I received the Control Approach rudder pedal system. This is now offered as a kit that the customer can put together following the instructions provided, and I chose to go that route. For a small additional fee, Paul at Control Approach can assemble the pedals and also install the master cylinders if shipped to him.

Having spoken to Paul a few times, I also highly recommended the pedals not just for their looks but again the quality of construction and Paul's support of his product.

For my install, I also ordered the Doubler Plate kit which is a template/doubler and hardware for laying out and cutting slots in the tunnel cover which would permit the rudder cables to be entirely hidden within the tunnel once installed.

Very impressed with the packaging of the rudder pedal components

Rudder pedal pieces inspected and inventoried.  Everything arrived in great shape!

Over the next few months, I'll start some of the rudder pedal pre-assembly in-between working on wing sections. Hopefully I'll also get my fuselage kit soon so that I will have somewhere to install all this good stuff!
